Chubb Mortice locks

It is recommended that all external doors are fitted with a 5 lever mortice lock. A mortice lock provides greater front, side and back door security by being physically embedded, or 'morticed', into the door itself.

Always fit a lock certified to BS3621. These can be identified by the British Standard kitemark symbol. Chubb Mortice locks come with different numbers of lever mechanisms, usually 2, 3, 5. The higher the number of levers, the more difficult the lock is to pick because it allows for greater key variations. British Standard 5 lever mortice locks must have over 1000 different key variations, whereas a 7 lever has around 6000. This type of lock should be used on a main entrance door in conjunction with a nightlatch (to hold the door shut when it is closed).
